We can offer a number of finishing products

All of our products are delivered in a raw state and therefore require finishing prior to or after fitting. This is particularly important with external doors, external doors must be sealed before fitting or immediately after fitting.

You may wish to keep the timber its original colour or alternatively you may want to change the colour to blend in with your existing décor. There are a range of dyes available. Dyes should be applied directly to bare wood covering the whole surface as quickly as possible. Please ensure that the dye you choose is compatible with the finishing product.

We can offer a number of finishing products, all of which are available to order and can be sent directly with your order or afterwards.

Danish Oil – for internal and external doors, floors, skirting and architraves.

Oil finishes can be used as a sealer and a finish, these are water, heat and alcohol resistant and range from a matt to a gloss finish, depending on the type of oil used. Oils produce a natural finish which allows the wood grain to show through, the oil primes, seals and finishes the timber and doesn’t leave a surface film which could then chip or scratch.

Rustins Danish oil is a very good product to use, it is defiantly one of our favourites, and it can be used on both internal and external timber. Danish oil contains tung oil and other special ingredients which penetrate deeply into all types of timber which dry to a hard durable seal which is water resistant whilst still allowing the timber to discolour slightly naturally.

Danish oil usually requires 3 - 4 coats and can be used internally or externally. Most damage on an oiled surface can be repaired easily by lightly rubbing down the affected area and then applying further coats of oil.

Flexterior – Primarily for external doors.

Flexterior is based on an alkyd containing translucent pigments which do not hide the natural grain of the wood, it provides a decorative and protective flexible finish which allows water vapour to permeate out of the wood, but prevents water from re-entering, thus minimising the natural discolouration of the timber.

Flexterior usually require 3 coats and is ideal for use on surfaces with heavy use and therefore maximum protection is required. Damaged varnishes normally need to be removed and re-varnished.

Waxes are available in a number of different colours which are formulated to beautify the timber, nourish the wood and give a soft, natural sheen and silky feel. Wax should be applied with a soft cotton cloth and buffed to a shine. Wax is the easiest of the finishes to repair and is achieved by simply re-waxing the affected area. Waxing generally requires 2 – 3 coats.

Waxing is not suitable for the exterior side of external doors but can be applied to the interior side.

Traffic is one of our favourites; it offers a very hardwearing seal which is very easy to apply. Traffic is a two component waterborne 100% polyurethane finish. Traffic provides a clear natural appearance giving almost invisible protection and the look of an oiled floor, but, unlike oil, offers a simple level of maintenance. Compatible stains can be used underneath the traffic should you wish to change the colour.

Hardwax Oil is a blend of natural oils and waxes offering exceptional durability and resistance for wooden floor and other areas subject to a degree if wear. Hardwax oil produces a satin matt water repellent, treadfast finish. The application of Hardwax oil is relatively easy and requires no sanding between coats, floors will generally require 2 coats. To maintain or renovate the floor simply re-apply. A single application will approximately cover 80m2 per 5 litre depending on the density of the timber, Hardwax oil is available in both a satin and matt.
